After checking out Honya’s anime family project, I figured it was quite a good idea. Therefore, I decided to organize and rank my favorite and runner-up characters in order to construct my own ideal anime family, not that the characters will be confined to only anime.

Otou-sama: Arima Soichiro (Kare Kano)
Honorable Mentions: Hakuoro (Utawarerumono), Shoryu (Juuni Kokuki)
Rationale: Miyazawa once categorized Arima has the perfect boyfriend: he’s handsome, attractive, smart, canny, athletic, and charismatic, yet at the same time modest, faithful, and helpful. He has a greater personality, particularly after the resolution to his family (real) arc. His exposure to the Arima family scars and experience in dealing with his own dark side has left the man a mountain of emotional stability and mental fortitude. His devotion to his family ensures that he would commit all available time towards them (even if it’s not much) and attempt his best in being a good father. Meanwhile, his job as an investigator and his resolve towards achieving his dream would make a perfect role model for his children. Despite all his virtues and accomplishments, his modest character, middle-class occupation, and all the lessons learned from his father would ensure that no children of his will feel overshadowed by him.
Gosh I feel like a fangirl for writing this entry.
Okaa-san: Hozumi Sayaka (Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na ~Crescent Love~)
Honorable Mentions: Yagami Hayate (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS)
Rationale: In the absence of a mother in the Asagiri household, Sayaka proves herself by taking care of and looking after the siblings Tatsuya and Mai, fulfilling all the tasks of a real mother in a gentle and considerate manner, yet stern enough to make sure no child stray from the path of enlightenment. She holds a formidable and respectful position in society, has a sharp tongue that would cleave reason it’s way through any barrier or lines of ‘that’s not fair’, and when the time comes, is willing to risk everything for the eternal happiness of her kids. She is one of the few characters who I can think of that would be a good match for Arima and could have replaced Miyazawa in Kare-Kano to solve Arima’s family problems. And to wrap it all up she is definitely a top ranker in any MILF comparison.
Oh the blessing it would be to attain the stunning combination of Arima and Sayaka’s good looks.
Nii-san: Shannon Casull (Scrapped Princess)
Honorable Mentions: Yagami Kazuma (Kaze no Stigma), Shi Seiran (Saiunkoku Monogatari), Takamichi Kyoya (Triangle Hearts/Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha)
Rationale: He’s got all the traits of a good older brother to look up to: caring and protective of his siblings, selfless and devoted to his family, cool and dependable in a pinch, always reliable for help, skilled in swordplay, and canny in intellect. Did I mention yet he comes with the fully hug-able Zepheris who’s also a dragoon assault craft?

Onee-san: Asakura Otome (Da Capo II)
Honorable Mentions: Tokiha Mai (Mai HiME), Maria (Hayate no Gotoku!)
Rationale: A shout “otouto-kun!” resounds across the courtyard as the graceful and capable student council president hurries over to take care of her beloved brother. Sure, it’s embarrassing to have a sister like otou-nee, but if that’s what it takes to have such a gentle and loving sister, I’ll learn to suffer it and take pride in the envious faces of everyone around. Otou-nee is the perfect addition daughter for any mother, one whose of tremendous help around the house and is always on the lookout for her siblings’ best interests. She’s an accomplished student would serves as a great example and a fine source of both encouragement and constructive criticism. To top it all off, she has inherent magical powers that no one suspects!

Otouto: Osaragi Hazumu (Kashimashi)
Rationale: The role of an otouto and imouto are quite similar in an eyes of an older sibling - someone you must protect and set a good example for, meanwhile adoring their cuteness and innocence. Because of the latter, an imouto is obviously better for an older brother. Technically this definitely means I would love to have an adorable trap for my otouto, except that for most characters I would feel like I failed my role as nii-san if my otouto decided to start crossdressing. However, I would obviously feel completely fine for Hazumu’s case, since he she changed genders due to blatant plot hole circumstance out of her control. Not to mention, with Hazumu’s personality, I’d actually feel more relieved knowing she can live as a girl.

Imouto: Aoi Nagisa (Strawberry Panic)
Honorable Mentions: Asagiri Mai (Yoake Mae yori Ruri Iro na ~Crescent Love~), Furukawa Nagisa (Clannad), Takamichi Nanoha (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha)
Rationale: Cute, respectful, and loving, with a somewhat vulnerable appearance, she fills all the roles of an imouto with perfection, her very sight sparking an irresistible urge to hug and protect her. Her optimistic and carefree personality will always bring light to my day and fill me with energy, and her hardworking attitude will become a great source of pride and joy for everyone in the family. Now I just need to make sure to keep her away from that Shizuma woman and pair with Tamao instead.
Waifu: Fujieda Honami (Tsuki ha Higashi ni Hi ha Nishi ni: Operation Sanctuary)
Honorable Mentions: Sakagami Tomoyo (Clannad), Shirakawa Kotori (Da Capo), Shirakawa Nanaka (Da Capo II)
Rationale: I’ve always worshiped the character creation skills of August-Soft, and Honami, in my humble opinion at least, is nothing more than the most perfect Yamato Nadesico ever created for anime or eroge. Although she could not fulfill the my desire for a moelicious NBR imouto-turned-waifu, the traits she does manage to contain within that wondrous frame is more than enough to leave me drowning in joy. Appearance wise, she seems almost quite plain for a bishoujo, yet it seems to give her image a sense of realism and serenity I could find in preciously few other characters. She’s well endowed to have just my ideal proportions for a girl. She has exceptional skills at cooking and loves to do it. She’s industrious and tireless, with the virtue of patience and a cute expression for what can barely be considered ‘anger’. She’s undemanding, selfless, helpful, agreeable, considerate, understanding, modest, devoted… this list can go on forever. And while most people consider this category slightly boring and always the underdog in harem competitions, she’s the osananajimi for which I could fondly recall an entire lifetime of memories with.

Musume: Sakagami Tomoyo (Clannad), Shirakawa Kotori (Da Capo), Shirakawa Nanaka (Da Capo II)
Rationale: I’d definitely love a daughter more than a son. There’s an old chinese belief that while sons carry on the family business and dreams, it’s the daughters who bring great joy to the parents… before they marry anyways. For the father, the best daughter is always one that brings a certain nostalgia of the younger mother to mind, sparking more questionable paternal love from the father. Both the Shirakawas have all the best personality traits of Honami, being selfless, considerate, agreeable, and modest. Also, both are exemplary characters of what I consider the two most virtuous traits in life: self-discipline/resolve and loyalty/devotion. Tomoyo, even more than the Shirakawas, is probably the most perfect example of these two traits. Plus, all three are blessed with an abundance of the three traits essential to success in life: intelligence, cunning, and charisma. With all these traits combined and Honami to set a good example, I believe they’d grow up to be the pride of any father’s life (other than scoring the perfect waifu of course).
I think my love of August-Soft works is well portrayed by these character selections.
This took me quite a few hours to compile, but I must say: it was quite worth it.
Just come and let … Classroom art - thanks!
